Celebrating Yoruba Culture, Tradition, and Language: ASA Day in France

Paris, France - September 30, 2023

In a vibrant celebration of Yoruba culture, tradition, and language, the Yoruba community in France came together to mark ASA Day, an event that showcased the rich heritage of the Yoruba people. This gathering was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Emir of the Hausa community in France and the Oba Hrm Oba Aderonmu Sadiq (king) of the Yoruba community in France. Notably, the Chairlady of the All Progressive Congress (APC) France chapter, Hajiya Aminat SUZUKI, and the former APC Chairman, Chief Mohammed Suheed Olanrewaju Balogun Otunba Maiyegun of France, lent their presence to this cultural extravaganza.

The Yoruba values, deeply ingrained in tradition, culture, and language, took center stage during ASA Day. The Yoruba language, a pillar of their identity, resonated through the event. Attendees engaged in conversations, songs, and poetry, keeping the language alive far from its Nigerian roots.

Yoruba culture dazzled the audience with its vibrant displays of dance, music, and attire. Traditional Yoruba clothing was donned proudly, reflecting the essence of this culturally rich community. Dancers swayed to the beats of the talking drum, celebrating a heritage that has transcended borders.

The heart of Yoruba tradition was on display through storytelling and folklore. Elders narrated tales of ancestors, preserving the wisdom of generations. The vibrant and elaborate masquerades were a visual testament to the intricate Yoruba customs that have been preserved through centuries.

His Royal Majesty Oba Hrm Oba Aderonmu Sadiq  of the Yoruba community in France graced the occasion, embodying the timeless significance of Yoruba royalty. Dressed in resplendent regalia, he symbolized the link between the past and the present, reminding everyone of the profound heritage they carry.

The Emir of the Hausa community in France, attending as a sign of cultural unity, emphasized the importance of preserving and sharing cultural values. His presence highlighted the diversity within the Nigerian community in France, showcasing that unity in diversity can be a powerful force.

Hajiya Aminat SUZUKI, Chairlady of the APC France chapter, delivered a stirring speech, expressing her pride in attending such an event. She emphasized the pivotal role of culture in shaping the Nigerian community and stressed the need to pass down cultural values to the younger generation.

In her speech, Hajiya Aminat SUZUKI said, "Our culture is our essence, our identity, and our strength. It is through events like ASA Day that we ensure our children understand where they come from and what makes us unique. Our traditions, language, and culture are not just a part of us; they are us. They are what bind us together and keep our heritage alive."

Chief Mohammed Suheed Olanrewaju Balogun Otunba Maiyegun of France echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and unity within the Nigerian community in France.
